Help Cache removal

Android Enthusiast
1st---While I was using my S3, and now Note 4- I used to clear cache by going into Settings- Storage- Cached data and clearing that.

2nd -- I have seen instructions to turn off phone, and go into recovery and find cache clearance from there.

Q1- In the first bit, what cache am I deleting?? App data ?
Q2- In the second bit, is this the real way, and what is that deleting. ?? System data ??

1st way on S3 used to make phone seem quicker, as it would release memory.
Just wondering !!

/cache

This is the partition where Android stores frequently accessed data and app components. Wiping the cache doesn’t effect your personal data but simply gets rid of the existing data there, which gets automatically rebuilt as you continue using the device

No data, personal or otherwise is erased when clearing cache. I will personally (read: what I do) boot into recovery to clear my cache (along with dalvik-cache--rooted) when my device gets a little wonky :)
