Calander Widget, versus app

I am looking to get my HTC Calander widget functionality from my DInc. It seems the GoCalander seems to be what I want but I want to make sure. I am pretty sure I want to use GOLauncher; just wish I could use the GoCalander without a launcher to start. Note: I don't have the phone yet which is why I am asking. I am getting all my ducks in a row to make sure before plunking down my money.

This thread got me started: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/496930-looking-sexy-calander-app-widget.html

I tried to play with the stock calander app in the store and I am not sure if I am just not bright, the phone was muffed up or something but I could not get that to work like I wanted it to. I could not get the monthly display to set as a widget, only as a full screen app. And I could only get that set by clicking an icon regardless of how I configured the widget on the screen.

Its needs to sync quickly from Google and I need it to layout as a widget shown below. I dont want to have to click an icon to get it to display that way. On my Dinc it occupies one of my home screens and I can click on the day in the widget format and pulls up my schedule for the day.

I also think Jorte has that same functionality? Only issue I read there is that it seems to go out to lunch and not update.

I would like to put it one swipe screen left or right of the true home screen and then be able to click a day to show the schedule.

I swiped a screen shot from Mr. SURoot to show what I would like to have.

You can add the full month stock calendar as a widget, but it will take up a whole screen. And mine usually updates pretty fast, it's almost instant. Maybe I'm not sure what you're asking.

On my Dinc, its a not-fullscreen widget and it looks like the screen shot. In that not-full screen layout I can see the whole month and click specific days without it going to a full screen month. When I click it does go full screen for the days appointments.

I guess that is what I was able to do in the store, so to me the stock app is close but not close enough. At least you confirmed I am at least a 20 watt bulb! :D Now to shoot for 60 or 75 watts! :D

Well then Go Calendar is definitely what you want, I believe that is the one in the pic you posted. But you are correct that you can't use it without Go Launcher...I don't think.

Yes thats the Go Calendar widget. It interfaces into S planner (not bringing it's own calendar provider with it) and it works well, but you do have to use Go Launcher. Maybe after a while using TouchWiz home, you would want to use Go Launcher anyway.

From doing a lot of reading on here, its going to be my first Launcher anyway. But you mention that it interfaces with S planner. I have zero intentions of using S planner, only Google as my scheduling device; do I have a concern at this point?

SURoot: I tend to like your layouts and that is what interested me most in attempting GoLauncher. I have a 10 page word document with screenshots, links and apps to get as soon as I get the phone. Can you say nerd? LOL! :D

On Android, the android calendar is your front end to your Google calendar (The web version of your google calendar being the back end).

S Planner is just the Samsung version of it. Although its not pretty, it is actually a good calendar.

Almost all calendar widgets are just yet another front end. A front end to the front end. A new UI to interact with s planner. When you click + to add an event from the widgets, s planner will open.

So its the google sync that brings your calendar database into s planner and then the widget that reads it.

There may other calendars that completely replace the google android / samsung s planner calendar, bur I don't know of them.

So the calendars face is some code with no real brains about it (a top coat written in some language) that hooks into an engine. That engine can be local or "other" with other being Google? You just need to point to the desired engine?

Yeah pretty much. S planner pulls from google, exchange, Samsung account and has a local one called "My Calendar". I turn all calendars off except google calendar.
