Call forwarding on Virgin Mobile USA

When calls (and texts) come in to my Virgin Mobile USA (CDMA) Android phone's number, I'd like them to be forwarded to another number (my Google Voice number, but that's not important).

I found these indications that it is or may be possible:

April 2013:
I was told by the CSR that 3-way and call forwarding will be added for free and included in service.

Currently on http://virginmobileusa.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5757/kw/forward :
System Update: Call Forwarding
There's no additional charge to use the Call Forwarding feature. Any forwarded call will just be charged according to your current service plan.

I found no instructions for how to do it. I found this HowardForums thread about it:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1797617-System-Update-Call-Forwarding
There it seems that most people have not had any success with it. Has anyone here on AndroidForums had more success, or can anyone give me any further advice?

I found this, using Google, from VM Facebook. They say to act as if you are making a phone call then dial *72 + the 10 digit phone number you want the calls forwarded to, then press Talk.

It's a new feature and may have some bugs or may not work on all phones. I think the only other thing to try is to call customer service and see if they can help you, or at least tell you why it isn't working.

Well actually, and unfortunately, that might be for newer phones only. Phones like the Optimus V or Venture might not work since they're old and likely not supported. :o

If it's a new feature, perhaps they haven't really sorted it out yet. We'll see soon.

That would be a bummer. It shouldn't matter what phone you're using...it's a carrier service that you activate by dialing a special phone number, and it should work from dumb phones as well as older smartphones and the latest. However, I've certainly seen plenty of stuff that makes no more sense than that, so I wouldn't be surprised.
