Call/Text announce through Headphones/Bluetooth app?

Hey,

(I have an x10 mini pro)

I'm not sure if this has been covered, I'm finding it difficult to word what I'm looking for correctly.

I'm trying to find an app (free/paid) that announces who a text/call is from with a voice (using text-to-speech or something) but ONLY through headphones or bluetooth headphones.

I've found a few:
Privus Caller ID
SayMyName
VoiceAlerts Lite
Call Announcer (by Codean)
(and a few others)

The problem is the "headphones only" button is either missing or doesn't work and voice comes over even if I don't have headphones plugged in.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what I'm looking for?

Thanks

Interesting requirement. It's not an appliance app like what you're looking for but I bet Tasker could do this. I know there's a "headphone plugged" state but I'm not sure if there's a BT connected state that would be needed to accomplish this with Tasker. The voice announcements themselves are no problem as I have a Tasker profile that announces callers over the loudspeaker.

Blue Ant has an application out that will announce SMS in the headset; however, most everything else is done through both the speaker and the headset. I tried Tasker long, long ago and did not find it as a solution here. I eventually uninstalled it.

SMSReader can be set to announce name (SMS name *and* Phone caller, btw), announce name AND read message, or be silent and not read anything at all. The announcement is controlled by the widget, which toggles amongst the 3 options. App is free.

I just tried it on my stereo BT headset, with Tasker speakerphone OFF. But it read through BOTH my headset and through the speaker. Then I tried it by setting my phone to vibrate only, it seems as if SMS Reading is through the "ringer" volume control, and not via speakerphone at all. If on vibrate, nothing is read out loud--nothing sounds in my headset nor from the phone.

It's a bug or poor programming. Not sure which.

Try Vlingo? It works great for me through my Moto T505 bluetooth speaker and it's free.

You mean Vlingo's Safereader announces SMS names through Headsets only and doesn't read through the speaker? That was the OP's question.

I have Vlingo, but only use it when driving.

Right, it doesn't play through my phone speaker. Try it and let me know if it works for you. Btw, I'm using a Droid X.

Do you use Handcent for SMS or stock app? I use Handcent and Safereader didn't read my Handcent SMS at all.

I use Handcent as well and Vlingo announces the sender and then reads the text to me just fine. Maybe it's a phone related issue? Sorry, but I don't know what else to do to help further. Wish I could though.

Hmmm...I'll give Vlingo's Safereader another try. Maybe I had some conflicts in the settings. I'll let you know once I've had a chance to test. Thx!

Also, just to clarify, when my bluetooth speaker is disconnected, Vlingo WILL play all announcements through the phone's speaker. Sorry I didn't clarify that.

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

I tried out those apps and i can't seem to get the settings I'm looking for, but thanks for the advice!

I may have to look into using tasker, although I've never tried it before. If I can get it working i'll post it on the forums!

If you have a certain blueant headset it will transfer your contacts from your phone to the headset. When you get a call it will announce the caller through the headset. If you download the blueant app from the market it will also announce your sms messages in the headset, but like vlingo, if your headset isn't connected it will read the sms using the phone speaker.

I use handcent and Vlingo. Just a thought- you have to have the volume of the ringer on at least a little in order for Safereader to read through bluetooth/headphones. It pauses it otherwise. However, on my Evo at least, the phone's speaker does not make any sounds. The alert and then the message all come straight through my bluetooth.

I have no apps on my pone for this at all. I do however have an LG bluetooth that announces the name of the caller as long as the name and number is saved in your contacts.

LG SGBS0005601 Solar Powered Bluetooth HBM-810 Headset

I actually like product. It comes with a cradle that is used for speaker phone that is used for travel or when you are tired of having the device in your ear and the volume of both the headset and the cradle is excellent. Best volume control I have seen on any bluetooth device. Plus the cradle is solar powered so you can hang up in your window and the sun will charge the cradle and the cradle will charge the bluetooth device.

Any luck with Tasker? I've tried a number of SMS Readers but they either require a data connection (VLingo) or work with a stereo headset but not a standard BT earpiece.

I have the LG Optimus from Metro with a Jawbone Icon BT and it works great with Vlingo, Although my Code worked better without having to install any apps, hope this helps.
