Call Volume Too Low, Must Restart to Call to Fix

hi all,

scoured "call volume" threads and not sure if this is experienced by anyone else. Intermittently when I answer a call I can barely hear the other person. Call volume is at the highest setting. I try making it lower then higher and nothing changes. If I end the call and call the same person back I will get normal call volume behavior. This happens every 5-10 phone calls.

sound like an issue with the hardware?

1.) Model Number ? Droid
2.) Firmware Version ? 2.0.1
3.) Baseband Version ? C_01.3E.01P
4.) Kernel Version ? 2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b android-build@apa26 #511
5.) Build Number ? ESD56

It's unclear what you mean when you say "at the highest setting". Are you referring to the SPECIFIC setting for IN-CALL VOLUME? Or the ringer volume controls? If the latter, grab freebie AudioManager Widget. It'll take up one row of screen space-- a visual of each and every distinct volume control setting available on the device. Tap it to open the settings page, where you can manipulate the individual sliders to get what you want, where you want it (alarm, music, alerts/notifications, ringer, system, voice/in-call volume). Desktop description with screenies:

If you already knew this, my apologies. Just hate to see someone left hanging, so I wanted to, at least, try to assist.

I was referring to the In-Call Volume. As I hit the +/- buttons I can see the in-call volume bar adjust but the actual volume remains extremely low. If I hang up the call and dial the same person right back I get normal call volume behavior meaning it is as loud as the volume bar indicates. At the highest it is more than sufficient and at the lowest it is extremely faint.

thanks for the response

I have this same problem on my VZW Droid as well.

I thought it was related to the fact that sometimes it wouldn't make any sound at all, but that was the "using the headphone jack and losing speaker sound" bug. I've gotten around that one by killing my music app before I unplug, but that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the earpiece volume.

You can hear the other person, but they're so quiet that I end up putting them on speaker phone when it happens. Like the OP said, it's maybe 1 out of 10 calls or so, but it's super aggravating when it happens. I've always just gone to speakerphone and gone on with life, but next time it happens I'll have them call back and see if it gets any better.

I have this issue too. Only happens occasionally. I usually go to speaker or have the person call back. Next call is always fine. Weird.

My brother had a problem with the speaker on his Milestone being quiet, I'm not sure if it was all the time or if it was intermittent. The speaker-phone was fine. He got it exchanged and and hasn't had the problem since.

Have you tried the phone on speaker-phone to see if you get the same result?
