camera apps

Ok so Im about to pull my hair out, seems no one can answer this question so here goes. I have several camera apps on my droid. They are all set at 5 MP. When I look at the pics yet they all show the same resolution, but they vary in file size from 1 mb to 4.5 mb, depending on the app. By the way, yes they are all jpeg.

On the phone I can't tell a difference, and even my comouter monitor has lower res than 2592x1936, so its really impossible to tell there either.

Only reason I'm wondering is that I would like to have several pics enlarged, so I need to know if those pics really are bigger, or if its just a compression issue.

Any help would be great.

personally Ive noticed that some of the "effects" cameras shoot at much lower resolution. Even if they "shoot" at 5mp, some just take an image at 1280x1024 then enlarge it. As such, those files are much easier to compress since there isnt really any extra data, so that might explain it. Also, it could be somewhat of a JPG issue. Images with lots of sky are Super easy to compress = lower file size. Take a picture of a brick wall with each, and see how the file sizes compare.

Take the same picture with all apps and put them on your computer. Then zoom in as far as you can go on each one at a critical point of detail. See if there's any difference in quality if not then pick the app that compresses better.
