Help Camera display looks better than actual pictures?

Hayli13

Lurker
So, this is for both front and back cameras but mainly the front. I was trying to take pictures with the front camera and it literally looks 10x better on the camera app screen right before I'm about to take it than the actual picture. For example, if I were to take a screenshot of the app where I'm preparing to take a picture it would look A LOT BETTER. Why does this happen?? When I take the pictures they come out so grainy and blurry and just horrible quality. But the display of the picture looks great. Help.

What phone have you got? There are some phones, where what you see in the camera app while composing the shot seems OK, but the actual pictures it takes are truly dreadful. Those are usually really cheapos, and things like knock-off Samsungs, etc.

Could you post some examples somewhere, like Flickr, Photobucket, etc. So can get a better idea of what the problem might be. Could be an actual fault, like focussing is not working, or perhaps it's poor lighting, that can certainly make pictures grainy, or just a dirty lens even.

Samsung Galaxy S3

It does this in any lighting. I also got this phone from an official Verizon store. I cleaned the lens.

Now I certainly wasn't taking pictures of plants with the face camera- I was taking pictures of myself. Granted the lighting wasn't very good, but they looked fine on the display. When I'd take the picture though, it would be absolutely HORRIBLE. A blurry, grainy mess. Any small details of the picture were just gone. I'd rather not upload a face picture though.
