Camera focus takes too long

My Note 4 camera takes a long time to focus, sometimes it doesn't before the screen shuts down from lack of use!
Is there a fix for this?
Many thanks,

Unless there is something mechanically wrong with your camera, you might try using a different camera app to see if it makes a difference. If that works them you might want to go into settings>apps>camera and clear the cache and data (this will reset the camera settings).

You might also look to see if there is a smudge on the lens that is making it hard for the camera to focus at all.

It's warning me that it will clear all data, accounts, settings, files etc. permanently.
Is this safe?

There are no accounts specifically set for the camera, but I'm not sure how Samsung's camera app is linked to your photos, so it's best to make sure they are backed up before you clear the app's data. Other than that, as I said, it will reset all the camera settings to default, but that's what you want, really.

It probably wouldn't hurt to reboot the phone after you clear the data, too.

Now, after you do that and you still have the focus problem, then I'd say it was a mechanical defect.
