Camera microphone permission

I was checking out permissions for some apps and found one for sound under camera. I went ahead and undid that because who needs sound with photos? Later I tried to take a picture and it wouldn't let me until I finally tapped allow instead of deny. Why does camera have to have sound? Is it some Google thing?

How can the camera record audio for videos if it has no access to the microphone? Also, it can't run because the app doesn't separate photos and videos into different features. It's the same thing with just a record button or a take a picture button.
If you want a camera app that doesn't have mic permission, look for one that is unable to record videos.

Some camera apps could have "voice activation" feature (taking photos by yelling or clapping ;) ) so they need access to microphone as well.

Anyways, apps always tend to ask as much permissions as posible, even when they don't really that much.

Or a camera app that you can set the permissions for video and audio independently, my stock camera app allows that.

Well that basically means a camera app that keeps features for video and pictures separate, like the old Samsungs where you have to toggle video mode or picture mode.
