Help Camera problems

So when this black area first appeared on my front camera it was just in the corner, but now spread across the top of the screen. It's only the front camera, the actual screen and back camera are fine. Anyone know what this is, or how to fix it?

You're certain there is no dirt obscuring it (including mould growing under the lens cover)? That soft-edged darkness looks more like a physical obstruction than an electronic or software failure to me, though that's only a guess rather than a diagnosis.
