Help Camera won't activate / freezes

My phone has been having trouble loading the camera (both by pressing the camera button and by selecting the icon) after a few minutes at a blank black screen, I get the message "Activity Camera (in application camera) is not responding Force Close / Wait?"

HOWEVER, on a fluke chance, the camera loaded for the first time this evening, I successfully snapped a few photos..and when I tried it again a few hours later, it's back to this error message. Any ideas?

I know I seem to be the only person having this trouble, but I actually returned my first phone. The second phone worked fine in the store, but upon bringing it home and letting some time pass, now even my second phone's camera won't load. I'm very confused...
