Root Can anyone help with this?

I really want to root this phone so that I can like it but I can't get past this:

>>Boot phone into Downloader mode
>>Pull battery reinsert hold volume down and plug usb cable in

After I do this, I get a screen that comes up, "Downloading... do not turn off target", and it just hangs there.....


Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
