Can anyone recommend sources for *real* ringtones/alerts?

Coban

Newbie
I'm looking for sources for *real* ringtones, notifications, alerts, etc...

I do NOT want:

- Clips from popular songs
- Novelty clips
- Animal noises
- Anyone speaking
etc...

I want actual ringtone and alert sounds. I can't believe how hard it is for me to find this. It seems like everyone and their mother just slices up songs and videos, and thinks that's all there is to it.

Can anyone recommend some quality sources?

Thanks! :)

Excuse me for sounding confused but,

Whats exactly are you looking for? Everything you listed as a non source, is exactly what ringtones, alerts and notifications are composed of.

I have no idea what else they could be made of.

Maybe a google search could point you in the direction of your quest.

No, that's what they've become.

Have you never heard an actual ring? Or a synthesized piece designed specifically to be a ringtone or alert notification? Those are specifically designed for this purpose, not something chopped up from something else. *That's* what I'm talking about.

I don't want something that was cut from something else, or a gimmick recording (such as someone yelling to pick up the phone), because while that category is fine if you're looking for a novelty tone, it's no substitute for something designed specifically for that task. Now, I understand this is a matter of taste, but one thing that is not debatable is that the two categories sound distinctly different. And I'm looking for genuine, purpose-built, instrumental or synthesized ring tones.

Search for things such as 'nokia ringtone' or 'blackberry ringtone' and you'll probably find the standard bleeps and bongs from phone from those manufacturers.

System sounds from Windows or MacOS can be good too

I'll give that a shot, but I was hoping for third party versions (that would hopefully be of higher quality), rather than making my phone sound like a different brand. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I remember reading an article a couple years back of where Nokia was hiring profession composers to make ringtones specifically for their higher end phones. Unfortunately it is buried in the internet somewhere and I can't find it.

I am amazed the the shear amount of ringtones that CM7 includes in their ROM. I always wanted to rip them out of my phone and zip them up on the internet for others to use.

I grabbed a copy of CM7 so I could take a look, and I found a few that I liked. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
