Can I charge my HTC One M9 using my HTC One M7 charger

All of the little mini-usb chargers should work with any other model/device.

My daughter is using one of my older Samsung wall warts to charge her HTC One M9

Hi, the chargers are not identical in that the one that came with my M7 has a 1.0 amp output whilst the M9 charger is 1.5 amp output, but the only effect of that would be a slightly longer charge time particularly if you are using the phone whilst charging. Both phones are in daily use and both chargers are used with each phone depending on which charger is most convenient.

I have started throwing away all of my old wall warts that are less than 2.1 amps...

I bought some spare Samsung 2.1 amp chargers like came with my S5 and Note 4...
those can handle anything that is around the house.

M9, wife's new tablet, any cellphone made recently.
 
I'm still using my old HTC Desire's charger with my M7 ;)

My tablet's charger lives in my daysack on the grounds that a more powerful charger is more likely to be useful when on the move.
 
If you want to get the quickest charge on your M9, you need to buy a Qualcomm Certified Quick Charger 2. HTC has one to buy and so does Aukey (on Amazon). The charger that comes with the M9 is not a quick charger. There also is a new standard that's Qualcomm Certified Quick Charger 3. That will charge your M9 a little faster than the QC2 charger. I have tried all three and I've settled on the Aukey QC3. It's also important to use the cord that came with your phone or with the charger. All "after market" cords are not the same and will effect charging. There probably are other certified Quick Chargers, I only have experience with HTC and Aukey. BTW, the Aukey chargers can charge any phone safely. They have circuitry that senses the battery and protects it from overcharging.

I was at Qualcomm's charging station at CES, the M9 with the 810 does not support QC3, and even the A9 (which has hardware support for QC3) still requires a software update that has not been released before it can utilize it. The only processors that support it are the 820, 620, 618, 617, and 430. You will get QC 2.0 charging speeds out of the 3.0 chargers, but nothing more. They had meters there showing current draw on test phones and the M9 is locked into the QC 2.0 specs. Stick with a 2.0 charger, 3.0 is a waste of money with the M9.
 
I bow to your expertise. I should have said my feelings on the speed of the QC3 over the QC2 were empirical. I did record the time it took to charge my M9 from 15% to 100% with both chargers. But even if I didn't use my phone during charging, it wasn't an exact measurement.
