Can I delete stock messaging icon? And, what's best msg app?

Is it possible to delete the stock (locked-in?) icon on the SGS2, or to have a second-party app pop up when we click the stock icon? I installed Handcent and am getting messages on both applications, which seems to be a memory waster.

Secondly -- I'm somewhat happy with Handcent but wonder what other SGS2 users find to be the best messaging app. Do you like Pansi SMS?

thx

I can't answer your 1st question, but as to your 2nd sentence, just turn off notifications in the stock app. A text is to a messaging application like a document is to a word processing program. There's only one text, but you can open it from any messaging application. When you delete a message from one application you won't see it in the other.

I use Chomp.

Iuse gosms, youshould also look into gocontacts, gokeyboard and other godev apps. As for the icon, i use metrostation icons. They are fully configurable. Use with golauncherEX. On my vitality while running golauncher, long press icon you want to replace and hit replace icon, next hit custom icon, last select icon. These apps are pretty easy to use. Good luck

Here's how to delete the stock messaging icon.

Pick a desktop screen that has an open slot to add an icon.

From the four icons along the bottom select the applications icon.

Hit menu then edit.

Drag the messaging icon up to the desktop.

Hit menu and save.

The messaging icon will now be on your desktop and can be dragged to the remove folder at the bottom just as you would remove any other icon.

You can also use this process to add another icon to the bottom.

Hope this helps.

Go sms! I've been using this app for over a year. It's free and the developers are constantly improving it and adding new features.

ive had a problem with gosms wanting to take over my voicemail and give me a number to call to get it, anybody with gosms experienced this?

Carvation - I installed GoSMS just two days ago and yesterday had the same problem - GoSMS required me to call a number to get my voicemail. I checked settings and can't find anything that I can change to fix this. I wonder if it's a new release of GoSMS? Hopefully someone else will have an answer...

i like gosms but im not calling a number just to get voicemail, i hate voicemail as it is now, if it wasnt visual voicemail i would never listen to it

I use gocontacts for my dialer and contacts. Its cool because u can swipe
between contacts and the dialer. Voice mail is also shortcuted jus like the
factory dialer. Jus long press the 1 key. You can also add other short cuts.
I only use my gosms for text and multi media. Both these apps have a ton
of themes so you can customize the look to your desire... i use poisongreen
with both of mine. My girls is electricpink which looks awesome to.
