Well im looking to get an android device soon, and after some searching around i came across this link:

Supported locations for distributing applications - Android Market Help

which doesnt list my country (cyprus). I basically cant download free or paid apps from the market :(
So is my only choice to download the .apk file from the net and put it on my SD card? Is there any other way? Also will the market app "recognize" which apps i have installed?

its great that i can access it that way, but i really dont think i'll be rooting my phone. I've never even had an android device, so i dont want to take the plunge. Is there any way on an unrooted phone? Like the way i said with downloading .apk files?

You can install *.apk files.

I have had my Milestone for 3 days now and have rooted it (never had anything to do with Android before), because it allows you to use the phone as a modem for you PC for free instead of paying $30 for PdaNet.

Rooting is dead simple.

I'll definitely think about rooting, but i think i'll stick to downloading apk files for now. Thanks for your input Szadzik.

cool i will consider that app, and it works on unrooted phones right? It doesnt say anywhere on that link. But like i said i'll have to wait a little to test it cause i dont have an android phone yet.
