Can I Edge Up with Unlimited Data?

I am in a bit of a unique situation. In a week moment of lust over the Galaxy Note 3, I signed up for the Verizon Edge Maxx plan. To my surprise the phone contract gods smiled on me, and I was able to keep my unlimited data and get the Galaxy Note 3 on the edge plan. This happened during a glitch in Verizon's system almost a year ago so I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The question is; When I reach my 50% obligation after having the phone for a year, will I be able to "Edge Up" and keep the same unlimited data plan?

I love everything about my Galaxy Note 3 except the signal issues. This phone has the worst signal of any phone I have ever owned. I have spent hours on the phone with Verizon about this and they wont replace it. Since they wont replace it i am going to upgrade to a new phone as soon as I hit that year mark.

I wouldn't count on it. Those glitches happen so rarely that I doubt it would work twice. If you do try it and get lucky, more power to you. :)

Thats what i figured. I guess the biggest question is if you are signing a new contract when you edge up. If you are I assume I will not be able to keep my unlimited. If that is the case I wonder if i will be able to pay full retail for a new device and just switch my service over to the new device?

As I was told a week and a half ago, EDGE is not signing a new contract, but they will move you to the Share Everything plan. It will not commit you to a 2 year contract, but limit you to some data restriction. It sounds like you got lucky and fell though a hole in avoiding that, but I wouldn't count on it happening again or not getting noticed.

I an in the exact same boat. Got in on the glitch. And then, of course, they changed the terms of the Edge program so it costs 10% more money before you can Edge up now. (Sill 50% for us, but new Edge plans are now 60% with a higher monthly cost)

Either way, I have heard from multiple sources that they are tying data plans to SIM cards now. So as soon as you activate a new SIM card, it will automatically take you off the unlimited plan and give you a tiered data plan. I really wouldn't have that much of an issue switching off of unlimited data, except that it is going to more than double my bill. Why can home ISPs offer unlimited internet at a low cost, but wireless companies have to cap it and charge an arm and a leg for it?

Also, I was told by a VZW customer service rep that once I hit my 50% obligation, I can give the phone back to them and NOT upgrade. That would fulfill my Edge agreement and I would be done with it. That way, I can keep my unlimited and just go buy a new phone outright.
