Can I keep my old alltel plan if I buy through a third party retailer?

Is it possible for me to keep my old Alltel voice plan if I buy my phone through a third party retailer like amazon or radioshack? I want to buy a galaxy nexus and they are way cheaper online at those sites but I dont see the option for keeping my now nonexistent Alltel Nationwide Freedom 900 plan and customer service reps dont seem to know either. Verizon has confirmed that I can keep it if I go through them, but otherwise I'm unsure if this will work.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can I keep my old alltel plan if I buy through a third party? My data plan is verizon btw, the also now defunct unlimited plan.

I would think you should be able to keep it, if VZW isn't going to make you change if you use them it shouldn't change for 3rd parties. After all the people on unlimited data plans can upgrade via 3rd parties and they don't have to switch to a tiered plan.
