I'm having problems with my power button, turning on the phone turning off the phone.. Anyhow I was thinking about making a claim to get a new phone, I have insurance. Will me being rooted affect my claim?

Nope. If nothing else, use the pwnage tool and unroot yourself.

Do you have the extended warranty/insurance? If so, make sure you're on stock, then take it to a Verizon store. They'll send you a new one under that warranty. Otherwise, make a claim with Asurion and don't worry... they don't care if you're rooted or even bricked. I speak from experience. ;)

Doesn't matter anymore anyway

As I recall....the fcc made a ruling on this that it's your phone. You can legally change the software on it.

Yes and no. The USCO didn't renew that clause of the dmca, so jailbreak and other romming is legal, except you're still held legally to any agreement you enter into with your carrier and they don't have to honor a warranty if you alter the phone.

So you aren't breaking the law anymore, but you may be breaking a legal agreement and most likely still won't have a warranty.

I sent in a phone to Asurion with CM7 on it once. Your insurance is a separate policy you pay for, so what you have on there doesn't matter. Now warranty service.. that's a different story.

But yea, if you're concerned, just send them a phone with stock on it. Rooted/not rooted... they'll never know the difference.
