Help can i make my status bar clear without root

Is it possible to make my status bar transparent without root

Some launchers, such as Nova or Apex, will let you make the status bar transparent while you are on your home screens (or hide it completely, or toggle hiding/showing it with a gesture, which is what I do). But that won't change its appearance when in other apps - you do need root to do that.
