Help Can not Restore Backup Data

I am new here and need help. I have galaxy S3 and backedup data using kies 2.3.2. After backup kies was updated to 2.6, so when I tried to Restore it came up to install and use Smart Switch. I installed Smart Switch and now can not restore as there is no data backedup using smart switch.
kies is not letting me restore as it is giving only one option and that is to use smart switch. I tried to install old version of kies but unfortunately the system does not allow to install it.
On Smart switch I click restore button and then "select a different backup" and then on next screen I click on browsing button (folder icon to browse to the file/ folder) to select backup folder to restore but at this point it does not accept kies backedup file / folder. I am lost and dont know how to retrieve some of folders in backup from kies. Anyone with any further help and advice ??
Does anyone know and help me as to how can I restore my data (specially contacts and Applications). Appreciate your help.

I don't think kies backs up or restores applications, I could be wrong.
Also, if you have sync turned on, your contacts should be backed up to Google and return when you log in to your Google account.
Also, for the s3 you should be using kies3.

I also am looking to my retrive my Data as my Galaxy note 8 tablet is broken, and have just noticed that kies is asking me to update which I will now not do.
So far I have not been able to retrieve my data that I backed up through Kies. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SAMSUNG IS SO UNTOGETHER AS TO NOT SUPPLY A FULL PROOF DATA BACKUP SYSTEM THAT WORKS! That is what Kies is supposed to do, or what would be the point of it otherwise?

What data are you trying to get? Google back up contacts and stuff. But app data (like games) isn't backed up by anything unless you're rooted.
