Help can only get battery to 100% by charging while switched off

Upgraded to 2.3.3 via kies last week so standard samsung firmware in use with no mods, and battery life has went through the roof :D

Noticed two problems with charging though, can anyone help?

1) If phone is left on and plugged into charger for overnight charge then it must be getting to max capacity then discharging? i.e. if I plug it in at 50% and get up the next morning it's pot luck what capacity is availble in the morning.. this is only since the update.

I don't think I can wipe the battery stats as the phone isn't rooted anymore. Is there a safe root for 2.3.3 yet?

2) If I switch off the phone then it charges to 100% (or thereabouts) but loses 2-5% within first 30 minutes then settles down.

I'm pretty sure that (1) is an actual firmware issue, however (2) could probably be fixed with a wipe.

I realise that my battery life is up there with some of the best (certainly enough for me) but its a little frustrating that I seem to lose that first 5% which would now be good for a couple of hours.

any suggestions?

Hi micstewart,

You could try backing up your data with Kies....then run a factory reset on the phone. It seems after any firmware update you should run a factory reset...worth a try anyway.

thanks. Will Kies backup everything? settings, Apps, preferences that kind of thing? I know I can backup contacts, pictures and things but what about all the other things installed on the phone?

thanks

Hi micstewart,

Kies can only backup Contacts, Photos, Videos. All you apps will need to re-installed.
Your setting would also be removed so if you have email account configure then theses will need to be re-configured.
