I just got a message from a friend saying that someones oppo phone exploded and that guy injured his hand badly. Are such things true? How does it happen? How to prevent it?

), though "explode" is hyperbole. I'd never take an individual Internet report as gospel, but the general principle that a faulty phone can be a fire hazard is real.
Explode and go off like TNT or something, probably not. I think "explode" was used by the tabloids because it sounds more sensational than say "catch fire". A phone or anything with a LiPo battery can certainly go up in flames, like could be because of faulty manufacturing.

The Oppo in the aboved posted fake news story with the twisted open back, quite frankly looks like someone did that deliberately with pair of pliers or large screwdriver something.
