im looking for a laptop under 1k maybe a little over like 1100, but mostly been looking at the alienware m11x, seems to be what i want, mobile gaming thats light weight and easy to carry...

but it only has a nvidia gt 335m which is pretty mediocre and only 11" which is TINY!, anyoen know anything better for that price range? my next step would be the m14 which seems great! but was wondering if theres something under 1k that is beter than the m11. i hear those smaller companies like lenovo make good laptops for a good price.

dont need anything TOO powerful, because i shood be moving out soon and my dad will return my gaming powerhouse desktop :)

Yeah, the m11x really is not as great of a mobile gaming computer as they make it sound, because of its graphics. You might want to consider one of the gaming asus laptops. While I don't have one personally, they have a good variety, over a big price spectrum.

Go check out the Asus G-series (gaming series) laptops over at Newegg.com. They've got a lot of configurations to choose from to fit your budget. One cool feature the G-series has is the backlit chicklet keyboard for gaming and deejaying like me. I believe the AlienWare guys started doing this after Asus started it.

There are a ton of great laptops for under 1k. Anything over 1k you start getting petty with specs or very specialized like 3d. The thing u need to know is what will u be doing on it? I just bought a second gen i7 with 6g ram and 750t hdd for less than 1k after taxes. The cpu doesnt matter much anymore just stick with i5 or i7 (depending on what u do the i5 may be better) ram is no longer much of a bottleneck with the new cpus, if u want better performance a ssd would eliminate the biggest bottleneck but then u really would want a dual bay hdd. Anyways i got a toshiba and both windows and linux so far have been fine and the only bottleneck has been the hdd. The cpu even with moderate vid and photo editing has barley passed 50%.

If your asking about specific brands i generally stay away from hp compq products but i have had good luck with hp business series laptops in the past. So my main point is unless u r a hardcore user, nearly all computers / os's are pretty darn good compaired to 7 yrs ago and its hard to go wrong especially in the 1k range. Unless u specify what u need though im just throwing a dart in a general way.

Remember who makes Alienware kids! DELLL!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

JK I am agreeing with jikhead on this one, Asus has really made a name for itself the last year, coming out with some great products and nearly always delivering as advertised.
