I got my Galaxy S Blaze from a friend and it was originally her father's phone, who is now deceased. He owed money on the phone (apparently), so after a while of using it, the service just got cut off on me. My SIM card still works just fine...it's the phone itself that refuses service until it is paid off. Please tell me if rooting the phone can make it usable again, or if doing something else will help.

Paying the phone off isn't an option, so please tell me if there is some other way to use it again. Thanks!

If the phone's IMEI is blacklisted, the only legal way to get it to work again is paying off the balance. Rooting might make it more fun to play with, but using actual cell service will require a clean IMEI.

The question was posted by me...I just created an account after.

Thank you, jhawkkw. Although it isn't the answer I was hoping for, it is what I expected. I have tried to talk to my carrier and there is nothing I can do about what's owed on the phone....and unfortunately, I am no longer in contact with the person who gave it to me. I guess I will just have to buy a new phone. It was worth a try though. :)
