Can someone tell me if im able to root my hero?

Hey im going to be rooting my friends hero, and just didnt know if i would be able to because the carrier is only locally. Its cellular south CDMA and its running the 1.5 ROM.

rooting the phone has nothing to do with phone service, it is software modification that only changed how the interface acts and how some of the hardware is used. shouldnt matter who provides your service

Alright thanks for the info, I was just wondering because the only thing that i have every changed ROMS on is windows mobile phones, im excited to finally mess around with a linux based phone <3 linux!!
