Can using a bad outlet damage the battery?

Ok, I've held off asking this question long enough, but I can't help myself any longer. It's one of those things that gets in my mind and I won't be satisfied until I ask.

So the past few months my S4 battery was getting pretty bad. After unplugging it from a full charge and then basically just walking to the car, it could be down to 90%. It didn't last a full day even with light usage. I figured it was the battery itself, but just to be sure I tried a different outlet, in case the outlet itself was simply not charging properly. It still seemed to do the same thing as far as I could tell.

I finally decided to upgrade to the S7. The first couple of times I charged it I used the same outlet. But even after a bunch of tweaks, the battery still seems to be draining somewhat quickly. Just now I had it unplugged for 18 minutes, with light usage like checking emails and Feedly feeds, and it was down to 95%. I have no idea if that's normal, but it seems like a fast decrease to me.

About how much screen time should I expect to get with light-medium usage on the S7? I'm still in the process of measuring all this. I got 5 hours yesterday, but I think that was because I was having Gmail sync issues and it was syncing for a long time and using up the battery. I will test again today and see if I get more. (Edit: From what I'm reading, 7 hours is on the high side and 5-6 is a little more normal.)

So I'm back to wondering about the outlet itself. This last charge was done using a different outlet (from the same surge protector), but my question is this: if an outlet for some reason isn't properly charging a battery, can it physically damage that battery? Even after just a couple of charges? Or is this all in my head?

Thanks!

But how about the outlet issue? If an outlet isn't charging a battery fully or properly, could it damage it?

Yes, I'm obsessed...

Did you check your charger? Chargers don't last forever, I even have a brand-new but faulty charger, it took me a couple of weeks to figure out why my phone didn't charge sometimes.

I used a different charger when I switched outlets for the S4. Still seemed like it drained fast. I was guessing that was just from being 3+ years old. I hope.

Your outlet would affect your charger first. Most likely it would not work, period. Could it affect your phone, yes, BUT you would know. Most likely it would fry the phone... But again, you may have already had a house fire o_O

Your issues are not with your outlet (s).

Lateck,

As others have commented I agree that your power outlet is probably the least likely source of your problems but since you have a bit of a fixation on it, for your own peace of mind get yourself a Kill-a-Watt and you can use it check all the outlets in your household. Not only can you check out a possible bad outlet it's really useful to measure how much power your appliances and other gadgets use.
