Can you buy apps from the market without going through the handset browser?

Does it seem to be safe to buy through the phone? Being that many of the apps have access to much of the phone and info, I'm not sure I want to put credit card inf into it. Not to mention other security issues. No firewall, virus protection, etc.
 
I don't even think your credit card information is stored on the device. You enter it once and then it is sent to Google and resides on their server. I would imagine that the transmission is encrypted.

Things are open if the developer choses to make them open - however I doubt the Market Application has made the process public. You can click on links to buy applications but all that happens is the Market pops up and you still have to go through steps of agreeing to buy.
