Can you download stuff on Apad Google Android Tablet?

I was looking on youtube watching videos about what you can do with iPads and I know you can use them like iPod Touches or iPhones in the way that you can go to the app store to download games and stuff for it.. But with the APad Google Android Tablet is that the same way or not because it's not apple?

If you can't download stuff from the App store can you download stuff like Aim or Zwinky on it? Or is that not compatible? Has anyone tried it?
