Root Cannot access recovery mode.

I few days ago I tried to root my tablet, however it didn't seem to work. (I went through the recovery mode and used some files as per a guide). My tablet works completely normally but it doesn't have root.
I'm trying again to root it, but I can't access the recovery mode. I hold power+voldown and I access the menu with the two icons. But when I choose the left icon, my tablet will a)turn off, or b)have a black screen.

Thanks for any help.

Can you get into Download mode?

If so, use Odin (you can get the files needed if you haven't already here) to flash this recovery. Our tablet is the "GT-P7510" in case you're wondering which version to download.

Install the GT-p7510_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0-Escape driver located in Odin's folder, put the tablet into Download mode, connected to PC. Open Odin, check the PDA option and click PDA to load the recovery.tar.md5 you downloaded from the xda/droidbasement link from above. Click Start. This will flash the latest ClockworkMod Recovery on, after which you can follow the instructions located here to root the tablet.

Hey thank you, I'm pretty sure I can access the download mode, so I will try this shortly.
However I believe I'm using p7500, as my tablet is 3g/wifi. Just want to confirm.

EDIT2: Thank you very much Sik00, I now have root access. I needed it because I'm stuck on my universities internet and it's running through a proxy. Basically no apps that use internet work, so hopefully I can fix this now.

EDIT: I re-ran the usb exe, and re tried the process and it worked. I'm going to do do the rest shortly, but thank you for fixing my problem, I really appreciate it.

Hello again, I ran into an issue. When using odin, I gave it a file in the PDA option (recovery.tar.md5) and clicked start in downloading mode.

<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

So, I'm not sure what that means, but maybe I forgot to install something.
I did run the USB exe.

Glad you got it working :)

Sometimes when Odin gives you those COM port errors, it helps to unplug all other USB devices except mouse and keyboard, and then connect the tablet. I've also heard of Samsung Kies causing connection problems, so make sure it's not running in the Windows Task Manager. Other than that, Odin works wonders. You can watch that ClockworkMod thread for the latest recovery updates as they come and install them the same way you just did.

Also, if you haven't already, make sure you go back into the recovery and make a backup now through "backup and restore", so you can be sure you have a restore point in case anything ever goes wrong.
