Cannot download JVM on HTC Desire - Please help

Hi, can someone help me? This is the message when I logged in to xxxxx "Login to xxxxx requires JVM to be installed. Go to ....."
Went to www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp as directed. Selected the download button for Offline installation for Windows XP as directed,
Then this message appears "The content is not supported on the phone. No application can be foumd to open this file. Do you want still want to download it?" Many thanks.

You cannot download a Windows version of JVM onto your phone, it is that simple.

"No application can be foumd to open this file." Does anyone know what is the application that is needed to open the JVM file? I am new to Andriod and HTC hence will ask some silly questions. Many thanks.

I get this message when trying to download a picture from the internet...any suggestions? The file says images-1.bin, why would it not be a jpeg or gif or img file? I didn't have this problem on my hero.
