Cannot hear myself during calls??

This is a strange thing that has happend since my upgrade....while I can hear the people I am talking to, and they can hear me...I cannot hear myself as I speak into the phone...kind of like talking into a phone that is turned off, and you don't hear the anything through the earpiece...

I don't know if this is a setting in the phone, or if the upgrade has issues with this. I hope it makes sense what i am explaining...but it is strange to talk into a phone and not hear yourself in the earpiece...I have to keep asking if they can hear me, because like I said, it sounds like the phone is off as I am talking...

Any ideas or anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

Yea beenz is right. I dunno why you would want to hear yourself. Although I do know that some carriers in order to save bandwidth, do not send sound if people are not speaking. It's kind of weird. You can hear background noise when the other person speaks but if they are not speaking there is no background noise and it is completely silent.

You're not supposed to be able to hear yourself.

That echo is uber annoying

Actually, you are supposed to hear yourself - every phone does that, both landline and mobile. It's called sidetone and is done on purpose. you just might not realize it till it's not happening. Without it, people will tend to raise their voices on the phone because they don't hear themselves talking in the earpiece.

Well... I can't wait till 2.2 for my Milestone comes out. :)
I'm not sure what phone the OP is using, but my Milestone running 2.1 definitely has sidetone. A good way to test is to blow into the mic during a call... you should be able to clearly hear the whooshing noise from the earpiece.

edit: oh... droid eris. Hmm.
