Cannot play any video with any player! Help please!

I need help.
I cannot play any video on my phone. When I try to play a video this happens:
black screen / freeze for 5 sec -> back to main menu

Here the videos I tried:

1080p (1920x1080) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: High)
1080p (1920x1080) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: Medium)
1080p (1920x1080) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: Low)

1080p Wide screen (1920x800) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: High)
1080p Wide screen (1920x800) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: Medium)
1080p Wide screen (1920x800) Codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AAC (Profile: Low)

same with 720p (full and wide screen, all profiles, H.264...)
and finally with 480p (...)

nothing at all plays

My Device: SAMSUNG Galaxy GIO GT-S5660 Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread rooted
i don't know if this phone is an high-end device, can someone tell me if that phone supports high resolutions or not?

Player tried: Pre-installed Player (Gallery->Movies)
RockPlayerBase

can someone help me
what is the best format/codec/res for my device

on my laptop i have Linux openSUSE 11.4 if someone will post a link to a converter program

You can try moboplayer or vital player. I'm not sure if they will run on your phone or not.

You can try handbrake to convert your vids. I've never used it , but have read that its what a lot of people use to convert videos.

i just tried HandBrake and it works
the phone only plays videos with MPEG-4 Video Codec
the MAX resolution is 480x360 (landscape res of touchscreen)

MoboPlayer force plays videos with H.264@480p but the video is very very low than
and MoboPlayer also gives me a warning message before playing the file
480p is recognized as HD by MoboPlayer

for me HD begins at 720p!
