Cannot play Movies on HTC Desire HD PLEASE HELP

Hi all,

Firstly as i am new to the forum, Hello i'm Kev.:)

This subject has more than likely come up before (And yes i have searched and searched for answers befoe i get dis-missed). I want to ask the question for myself to try and get a definative answer to the problem.

I have a HTC Desire HD which coming from an iPhone 3gs i am massively impressed with, However for the life of me i cannot get any of my films to play on the damn thing, it just doesnt seem to recognise any file format you put in it! I have see hundreds of threads and have tried numerous video convertors i.e. Handbrak, AVS, android video etc etc all to no avail. Now if this thing does not and will not play films it is a pointless piece of kit imo, it has the very large screen, surround sound etc etc all the things you'd want/need for ideal film viewing so surely there has got to be a way of doing it?!
I am soooo frustrated with this and i really hope that someone out there knows how to do this, i just cannot understand why it is so difficult to put an mp4 or whatever file into the phone and watch it when compared to the iphone (And the dreaded itunes), everything else is so easy utilising drag and drop

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully someone can put me out of my misery before the phone ends up in the thames! haha

Thanks

You can play nicely videos on Desire or Desire HD (or on any Android phone for that matter).
If you are having issues, then the problem is either the video or the phone.

Try this:
1) Check if the videos are playable on PC.
2) Get a proper video player from Market, for example MoboPlayer and give the videos a try. If there is an error what does it say?
3) Are the videos DRM protected (have you purchased them via iTunes?
4) Get MediaInfo on your PC, open the files, select text format and paste the file analysis info here.

With proper steps and combined knowledge we should be able to fix your issues. :)

Hi, there doesnt appear to be anything wrong with the phone, it will play video's that i have recorded on the phone, videos off youtube etc etc, it just will not play films that i have either downloaded from the net as mp4 or dvds that i have converted using one of the listed programs. As a test we put the two movies i wanted onto my mates HTC Desire (Not HD) and the played fine, we then dragged the from his phone to mine an they wont play. It doesnt give me a message of any kind, th video shows up next to my recorded ones but is just a black square with an ! mark in the middle?!?!

In addition to that, i have tried mvideoplayer and mobo player which says the file can not be opened or played or something like that!

Please try the suggestion #2 I've posted above.

Edit: I see that you've tried other players.

To eliminate SD card corruption problem, I'd suggest you to format the card (first copy your data to PC). Then try to play the videos again with Mobo.

Ok thanks, the card seems ok as other things stored on it dont seem harmed, but this is a good idea and defnatley worth trying!

Thanks...
