Cannot remove icons from home screen

This is for the Lenovo Tab M8 (8 inch tablet ). I am having an odd problem. I cannot remove icons from the home screen because there is no remove or trash indicator anywhere when I move the icon around. Saw a post complaining of the same problem from a couple of years ago and the suggestion was to use a different launcher. They tried with Google Go but didn't solve the problem. I installed Nova ... still can't find a remove indicator.

Any ideas?

And did you long press, then attempt to move the icon to the far top or bottom of the screen?

On some devices, I have seen where the option to delete or to place into a folder only appear after you have taken control amd moved the icon.
 
Hi @droidros, did you try restarting your tablet before changing launchers?

I have the Lenovo M10 and it does strange things at times, and the first thing I do is a roboot and up to now it has cleared the various glitches.

After installing and using the Nova launcher, I happened to return to the stock launcher. Guess what? The little trash can appeared when I moved the icon. So I guess it was just a glitch.
