Help Cannot save Word files to my phone

I have a Alcatel One Touch Fierce 2 phone and while attempting to save a word.docx or word.doc file to it from Microsoft Word 2010 on my pc I get this...

"This is not a valid file name Try one of the following
*Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly
*Select a file from the list of files and folders (followed by lots of alpha and numeric characters.)

How do I save files created on my pc in Word 2010 to my phone?

On the phone I am using Office Suite Free Version Version 8.2.3136 downloaded from the play store.

I had no problem saving files with my old DroidX2 phone but now this.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

When you say "attempting to save a word file to it from Microsoft Word" do you mean that you have Word open, select "Save as" and try to select the phone as the destination, or do you mean copy a word file to the phone via USB? I can't think why the second wouldn't work, but am not sure the first would (I've never tried, and don't even use Windows, but will explain below).

The difference between your current phone and the new one is that the old one would have supported USB Mass Storage, i.e. would mount the phone like a flash drive, but the new one will use MTP for USB connections. You can transfer files that way, but I genuinely don't know whether Word will be able to save directly to an MTP-connected device.

So if you are trying to save directly, try saving the file to the PC then copying it across.

If even that won't work, there are apps like Airdroid or WiFi File Explorer which let you copy via WiFi, or you can use Dropbox or similar. But it ought to let you copy via USB.

Yeah I can save the files to my pc and copy them over later but was hoping for the direct save to phone option. Less hassle. I was thinking maybe the file was read only and why it was preventing me from doing it, or maybe it had something to do with Microsoft Protective Mode etc.,

I edit and update files on my pc daily and why it would have been more convenient for me to save them directly rather than copying them over later. Of course I still perform my backups np.

Thanks for the explanation now I know why. You live you learn. Just something I have to live with.
