Cannot see who's calling me or who I called (callerid?)

Ever since I upgraded to Android 8, its a shot in the dark if, when I call someone, it shows me that person's contact information. Worse, when someone calls me in almost never shows me. I shows the number but not the contact's name or photo or anything and they are clearly in my contact list. Is there a setting somewhere that I should use?

What phone do you have and when was it updated? Not rooted, stock? It started right after the update or after a new app install?
