Help Cannot update roaming list by calling *228

Newbie
Has anyone else experienced the frustrating circle that results from calling *228 to update your roaming list? I have always updated my roaming list every month by calling *228 and then saying "update roaming list". Today when I called *228, everything I tried in MetroPCS' voice menu was circular. I tried both pressing option 5 and then every voice prompt available, all without success. I made repeated calls to *228 but no matter what I tried, I could only get to instructions about how to update the roaming list ("by dialing *228 from your home calling area"), but never to a point where it actually performed the update. Hey MetroPCS, I already dialed *228 - that's how I got to your instructions in the first place - so thanks for nothing!

I finally took the option to speak to a representative. The representative said that because I recently upgraded to a new GSM phone, I no longer have to do the monthly roaming list update. He said that a GSM phone updates the roaming list on its own, automatically.

Does that make sense to you experts? If not, what is the correct telephone number and prompts to update the roaming list? Has anyone else been in the *228 cycle of being told to call *228 - which you just did?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Carol

Hi Carol, yes the rep was correct that with GSM that you do not update the roaming list as with CDMA. Indeed it does do its updates automatically.

MonkeK73, thank you very much for your reply and confirmation. Too bad MetroPCS doesn't say that in it's canned menu instructions. I wish I could have that hour of my life back. :(

Thanks again for your help!

I feel you Carol and I agree they should make it more clear, also sometimes it can be a hassle dealing with Metro PCS's customer service!
