Cannot use Gmail. Is there a virus on my Sony S tablet?

Recently I altered the gadgets on my Sony S tablet browser window and cannot access the gmail one. Irritating! It is repeating and I think either the programmed code is wrong or a virus is affecting it. I managed to bypass it recently but cannot do so now for my main account .

It's almost certainly not malware ("virus" means a specific type of malware, and there aren't any actual android viruses). Malware infections are much rarer than the impression the internet gives, and this started after something you did.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with Sony to know what you mean by "gadgets in your browser window", so probably can't advise on fixing it. If you can explain what you did to "bypass" it that might help.

Try going to Google Play Store or your Setting <Apps> then Uninstall the updated to that app. It will ask if you want to replace it with the device stock application. Click yes, that will remove the malfunctioning update version and it should give access to reenter your user name and password. If you want to reinstall any updates for the app. Just wait a few hours and Google API to do its circulatory update push that will replace it back in to Google Play Store and you can reinstall it if you deem it so necessary.
