Can't Change Ring Tones - Galaxy S7

Lurker
I am surprised I could not find this problem listed.

Anyway, I am unable to change any ringtones on my Galaxy S7. I know how it is supposed to be done, but it no longer works. When I go to Settings>Sounds and Vibration>Ringtone, I should get the list of ringtones to select. Instead I get File Manager. The same thing happens if I open Messages and select More> Settings>Notifications>Notification sound.

I chatted with Verizon Support and their response was (of course) "Reset to Factory Settings" Is there no other solution? BTW I am running Android 6.0.1 with all the latest Verizon updates.

It seems you accidentally set File Manager as default.

Try installing an app like Zedge. This is another option you can choose when selecting ringtones. Ideally it should remove the default setting you made and ask you again what would you like to use when settinh a ringtone: file manager vs media browser vs zedge.

...or reset default apps...

I have a feeling it's Media Storage.
Settings> Application Manager> More> Show System Apps> Media Storage> Set as default> Clear Defaults
