So when I plug my phone into my laptop I can hear the sound that it makes when you insert a device into it but when I go to my computer there is no sign of it at all. All the drivers are up to date and I tried to install Kies but it never gets past the connecting screen. I have tried everything I can think of. I have uninstalled all the drivers and re-installed them. I made sure it is in MTP mode when I plug it in. I thought it might be my USB drivers or something but I can connect other things to them without anything going wrong. I am running CM10 and I thought it might be that so I tried two other GS3's with stock Android and still the same thing. I just connected it to my laptop like 2 weeks ago so I am really confused as to what could possibly happen in that time.

I suggest you try using the cable that came with your phone to connect it to the computer. There is variance in the quality standards of some USB cables. Start with the OEM cable to prove it works and then use a different cable if you choose.

hi, got the same prob today, solved it by going to setting, storage, format sd card
if u hav data in it, unmount it, save data to pc via card reader, put back into the S3, format with the S3
good luck.
