Can't connect to PC/Laggy phone

Hello everyone,

I've had this problem before and after losing all my stuff on my phone got it to restart and update but had to go through the pain of dl-ing all my apps/widgets/etc again. So my phone has been working great up until a few weeks ago, it has become super laggy and the battery life sucks now.

I'm thinking I have to update it through Kies but its a nightmare trying to get my phone to connect, I've tried doing things listed in the sticky above to no avail. It says when I plug it in (paraphrasing) "Doesn't recognize device" and I'm searched for an update to the Drivers and it says they are up to date. I have version 2.2 on my phone.

Please help and don't feel bad talking to me like I'm a 5 year old (pictures are fun).

Okay it seems to be where the USB plugs into my phone, I can get my PC to acknowledge my phone, but Kies stays on the 'Connecting' screen....seriously why is it so hard to update my phone.

Did 2 things and not sure if it was just the one or both that helped.

1. I used a Blackberry USB (my gf's). I found it fit better/tighter (thats what she said!) then the one that came with my phone.
2. I followed the instructions from this youtube video ( How to connect your phone to Samsung Kies| REAL WAY - YouTube ) that I searched my phone model and dl'ed the Kies specific to my phone...not sure if that matters at all but it updated some what smoothly, Kies still sucks but whatever it updated.
