Help Can't connect to PC

Hello All,

I am having problems connecting my phone to my main pc in my home(Windows 7 pro). It connects just fine on my pc at work (Windows 7 pro), but here at home it will not connect. When I plug into an open usb 3 port, it tells me connected as an installer at the top, the pop up comes up asking if i want to view folders or auto run the install (verizon misc) I do the auto run it does nothing, and then loses connection to the pc.. it still charges, but the pc does not recognize that it is connected.
I went to the samsung website and tried downloading the drivers via samsung website, but the link did not work. So I got assistance from samsung and they installed Samsung Kies for me, and it does nothing. When I connect the S5, kies starts to connect to the device, but before too long it tells me "Connection to lost"

I have fairly decent knowledge in computers and I have tried everything I can think of, different ports, different cables, restarting pc, restarting phone, power cycle phone.. all the basics. Can anyone offer any info that may help this situation?

Thank you.

Ok i have had this and the issue is USB 3 and if the port on your PC will work with USB 2
I got round the issues and got a USB 3 Lead, The Note 3 had this issues and they changed the lead
Now the strange thing is the pc will see it then and change its self to USB 2 then it should work

after uninstalling ALL of the samsung drivers, my pc was able to "Plug and Play" and automatically download the correct drivers.

Now the only problem I am having is USB 3.0 does not work. I plug into anyone of my 5 USB 3.0 slots with the 3.0 cable, switch my phone to 3.0 mode, and after 5 min of trying to connect via 3.0, it switches to 2.0.. not the biggest deal, but I'd like to be able to use my USB 3.0 speeds if I can

Here is something I've had to do a couple times over the years to get my Galaxy to connect to my Windows PC:
  • Ensure phone is disconnected from the PC.
  • Open RegEdit in Windows (Disclaimer: do this at your own risk blah blah blah)
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
  • Under Class are a bunch of subkeys with long alphanumeric names (these are called GUIDs). There may be 30 or more keys.
  • Use keyboard down arrow key to move down the list of keys in the left pane while looking in the right pane at the "Default" field (at top). You are looking for an entry that says Portable Devices
  • When you find Portable Devices, you should see an entry below it called UpperFilters or one called LowerFilters
  • Right click on UpperFilters and click Delete. Do the same for LowerFilters.
  • After deleting these, reboot your computer and try connecting again.
To answer Phil, to put the phone in USB 3.0 mode:
  • Connect USB cable to phone and PC using USB 3.0 cable
  • Once phone connects, pull down from top of screen on the phone
  • Click Connected as media device (this is how mine connects by default)
  • A USB Computer Connection screen appears.
  • Tap Media Device (USB 3.0)
  • Tap Use USB 3.0
  • Phone should disconnect and reconnect in USB 3.0 mode
