Help Can't detect Wifi hotspot

Hey, I tried to use my S3 as a wifi hotspot for the first time. I turn off wifi, turn on 3g and turn on wifi hotspot but i can't detect the hotspot on my computer and laptop. Do I need a special app for this or something? why is it not showing up? tried changing the network's name but it still doens't work.

Are you setting the hotspot to broadcast the SSID?
If not, then you need to put in the hotspot name on the device you are using to get connected to the hotspot. That is to say, you need to tell your client device what the name of the hotspot you are trying to connect to.
