Help Can't download or play mp3 files from the web.

I have mp3 files out there on the net. when I touch/click one with my android phone (ZTE Awe with Android 4.1) a popup appears and it looks like it is downloading a file. However after only one second (it should take longer) it says "download complete". Then when I try to play the file nothing happens. If I try it with the google music player, it says it's a bad file type. If I try another player, the player opens up but the song has no time to it. There's like an empty mp3 file.

Any idea? Shouldn't I be able to click on a URL of an mp3 file and have it stream right from the web, or at least download the file properly?

MP3's are copyrighted. If you are purchasing the files and not receiving them, something is afoot.

These are my own recordings of my band. No copyright. If I put the file on the phone directly from my computer it plays just fine. It's just when I try to click/touch on it from a web server that this happens.

OK I think I figured it out. It seems as though it's Dropbox's fault. When they are on a regular web server, it works fine; I can stream or download it correctly. When the file is on dropbox, I get the bad file. The dropbox links work on my computer but not on my phone. workaround is to put files somewhere besides dropbox.
