Help Can't get apps to use custom sound files

Jedo

Lurker
Hello,

I want a reminder to play a custom sound every certain number of minutes. The default alarm cannot work with such small periods, so I downloaded a number of apps from the play store. The weird problem is: instead of the sound chosen by me, the apps play one of the random default alarm sounds. All of the apps I tried (about 8 different ones) do that! In one of the apps, I picked the file and it immediately showed me that it picked a default ringtone sound instead of the sound I had just picked.

At first I thought that the problem is with the sound file, but I tried picking some other sound files on my phone and the same thing happens. Anyone any ideas?

Additional info:
The phone is LG V10
The sound file is in MP3 format
The file is on the phone’s main memory (I cannot get the apps to look on the SD card so I guess it has to be)
I made sure the name of the file doesn’t have spaces.
I tried making a new folder, in case the Notification and Alarms folders are somehow protected.
I made sure that the file can be played by opening it up in the default music player.

Well, as is usual with these things, I think I found a solution soon after posting about the problem. I installed ES File Explorer and then used an app called reMind and browsed to the file using the ES File Explorer. The alarm I just tested used the correct sound. Weird! Hopefully it will keep working. If not, I shall return.

I can name some of the apps that did not work though:
- Reminders
- Chimer
- Just Reminder
There were others but I had quickly uninstalled them so I can no longer easily find them.

P.S. so basically, for some reason the default android browser doesn't pick the file properly.
