Can't get fingerprint unlock to be used by itself

I'm trying to set it up to use fingerprint to unlock my edge phone as I did with my GS6 Edge. I put in my fingerprint and setup the backup pin, but when I turn the phone on and place my fingerprint on the home button it asks for my backup pin. I dont want to have to use my fingerprint then enter a pin.
Any ideas whats going on?

Probably a no brainer, but do you have your Screen lock type set to Fingerprints? It's in the Settings>Quick Settings>Lock screen & security

Ok so I redid the settings and same thing. What's interesting though is it worked fine a few times then back to the same issue.

Answer:
1. Do not confuse using Encryption & Fingerprint... as opposed to just Fingerprint. Encryption will force use of password EVERY power-up, but NOT for just Re-start or unlock.
You fail to mention if Encryption selected.

2. If happening WITHOUT encryption, and JUST on UNLOCKING:
- I would do the FACTORY DATA RESET and start over.
- ALSO KEEP IN MIND: There ARE system updates that DO NOT get applied to your Fon for several hours after initial registration with your Carrier..
- You may just need to wait for those updates.. a bit.

2. SET UP the FINGERPRINT feature BEFORE setting any other passwords.

try these..

I actually figured out the problem fooling around with some things. I always used the screen off and lock app on my other phones. I guess it's not fully compatible with Marshmallow yet.
If I hit the screen off app button then it will say swipe to unlock when I turn the screen on and then ask for my backup pin even though fingerprints is selected.
If I use the phones off/on button then no issues at all. I removed the app and all is good.

Try shutting down the phone and restarting. It will still ask you for your pin. Unless your carrier is set it up differently, every restart will require the pin code/password. Lock unlock on the other hand, will allow the fingerprint by itself. Apparently the pin code is regarded is more secure than the fingerprint. Please try it and confirm.

I already fixed and and explained how. See my above post. It was just an app I was using that was causing the issue.
