Can't hook phone to car.

Hello everyone, I have an 2017 Nissian Rouge, and just purchased the S9+, and cannot hook the phone to car. The Bluetooth on the phone is turned on, and when I try to make the connection it says "Failed" and tell me to go to nissian.com for compatible phones.
Would I need an app on the phone first?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Go into your cars Bluetooth settings and add your phone to it.
Pair and should work

Thanks guys, I was able to hook my phone to car, problem was I was reading the manual, and what I was seeing on my the car screen did not match exactly, I think they updated the car, and left the manual the same. Anyway all is well now. Thanks again.
