Lots of market apps seem to specify the Android version now, such as "requires 2.1-2.3" meaning I can't download on my N1 running 2.3.3. This is getting very frustrating. You run the latest versions and find you can't run a lot of apps. Is there any way round this?

I've encountered only one application that I couldn't run on my Desire (Android v2.3.3).
Surely things are not that bad? :)

A lot of apps say requires 2.1 and up, or something similar, but when they are specifying the highest version, it will start affecting more people as updates come out.

Those Devs are just following the (bad)* advice the compiler (Google) gives to set a max API level for their apps. I'd say just email the devs and ask them to remove this.

If anything, Android is very backward compatible. There isn't really a good technical reason for this.

*my opinion

Well, it's good to see Google follow their own advice then, most of theirs seem to be " x and up". :p
