Can't obtain IP address for WiFi

I'm trying to connect my Droid Razr Maxx HD to the WiFi at my house and it stays stuck on "Obtaining IP address..". Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Has anyone run into this issue? It looks like my router is set up for DHCP with a pool of 50 addresses and there's no way I would use all those.

We know the client hardware. What's the router hardware?

I'd go through iterations of encryption, and possibly speeds, could be a router that's a little weird or non-standard in it's implementation. Have you called the router vendor?

Mine connects to a netgear WNDR3300 just fine.

Wait, 50 addresses in your pool? That's not even a common ipv4 subnet. Interesting.

Well, it's 24-bit subnet, but I just chose 50 being that it's only a couple of nodes in my house. My wireless router is a Linksys WRT54G. I tired turning encryption off and still couldn't connect.

Shot in the dark: Is it a dual band router (e.g., 2.4 GHz and 5GHz)? There are so many variants I'm not sure what you have. If so, disable the 5GHz band and see what happens. Also try transmitting on only b or g and see if it makes a difference.

I believe it is a dual band router. I tried b and g to no avail earlier. I'll check the GHz bands tonight. Thanks!

Yeah, really strange.... you meant a 24 bit mask, aka a /24 or a 255.255.255.0 netmask, not a 24 bit subnet :D I'm tracking with you here!

So it's basic G, no encryption, or is there something else weird? When was the last time you updated the wifi router? Isn't that an older router, like really old first gen G technology?

I'm not sure how old it is. The thing is.. my roommate can jump on with no problem with his iPhone.

Hi, hope you all don't mind my two cents. :)

I see this often with Android and iDevices. I've had days where I'm fine in the morning and get home and can't get back on. While my wife has no problem. Or vice versa.

Most of the time, a router reset cures it for me.

Also, two things -

One, make sure that you're not using your router's default network name. Get a neighbor or two running the same default rig and devices get confused.

Second, make sure that you're not sharing a channel with the neighbors. If you are, you could be getting timeouts while traffic collisions are being arbitrated. If that's been happening, fixing it by setting your router to a free channel will probably improve your network for everything you have on it.

Both can be checked out with WiFi Analyzer, free in the Play Store. :)

It works now. I rebooted my phone and router and BAM! I also downloaded that WiFi analyzer.. nice! Thanks for your help.
